Strengthening Our Commitment to Human Rights
Sims Limited Completes United Nations Business and Human Rights Accelerator Program
In December of 2021, Sims Limited announced their support and alignment with the United Nations (UN) Global Compact and broader UN goals on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. By joining the UN Global Compact, Sims Limited is declaring a commitment to promote and value ESG efforts related to sustainability and socially responsible policies, including human rights.
Walking the Walk: Taking Action on Our Commitment to Human Rights and Labour Rights
As a global leader in sustainability and key enabler of the circular economy, Sims Limited operates on a stringent sustainability growth strategy that is closely aligned to UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are constantly seeking ways to enhance our ESG initiatives and identified participating in the very first Business and Human Rights Accelerator program as a great opportunity to advance our efforts to protect human rights and labour rights across our operations and supply chain.
“This was such an amazing 6-month journey focused on human rights impacts and what we can do as good corporate citizens to meaningfully address them,” stated Marnie Gucciard, Sims Limited’s director, global ethics and compliance. “I am grateful we were accepted into this unique program so we can continue expanding on our efforts to advance human rights across our value chain.”
During the six-month program, Marnie participated along with representatives from more than 800 companies globally, in multiple hands-on sessions and completed workbooks that covered topics related to ways businesses could identify salient risks and effectively respond and engage with internal and external parties. These sessions were completed alongside other Australian businesses in the local network for signatory businesses.
